Rabbi Avraham Yossef

Background

Rabbi Avraham Yossef was born in Egypt on the year תש"ט (1949) while his father, Ha'Rahag Ovadia Yossef acted as the chief Rabbi of Cairo.
Rabbi Avraham has one brother and 9 sisters, his family made aliah and lived in Jerusalem when he was one year old.

Until the age of 15 he studied in the "Porat Yossef" yeshiva in Jerusalem, and when he turned 15 he started his studies in the "Kol Torah" yeshiva.
In the age of 18 he studied in the "Torah Ve'Horaa" yeshiva in Tel-Aviv.

Rabbi Avraham got married in the year of תש"ל (1970) and with his wife, raised a family of 5 kids. After 5 years he enlisted to the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) and served in the regular army for 13 years.
After his basic training in the engineering corps, he served as a chief military Rabbi in a verity of offices, Chief Rabbi of Sinai in the Israeli Air force, Chief Rabbi of Haifa district, Second to the chief Rabbi of the Air force and Chief Paratroopers Rabbi until the end of his service.

At the age of 23, Rabbi Avraham was appointed as a Community Rabbi in Tel-Aviv.
In the year תשמ"ט (1989), He concluded his militant service in the ran of Lieutenant Colonel.

After his release from the IDF, Rabbi Avraham held a senior position as the head of "Or Ha'Mizrach" Institute, which was known for publishing manuscripts of the greatest Sephardic Rabbis in the last generations, and mainly for the great and important project "Ha'Shulchan Aruch" (which today is in its final steps for completions in the city of Holon).

In the year of תשנ"ט (1998) Rabbi Avraham was elected as the Chief Sephardic Rabbi of Holon (a position Rabbi Avraham still holds today).
In the year תשס"ח (2008) Rabbi Avraham was elected as a member of the Israeli Chief Rabbinic Council.   

These Days Rabbi Avraham give Torah lessons on a daily basis in Holon, Tel-Aviv, Bat-Yam, Yavne and Rehovot and an occasional lessons in random locations in Rishon-Lezion, Ramle, Benei-Barak, and Petach-Tikvah.

Further more, every morning at 9am Rabbi Avraham give Torah lessons in Halachot, answering listeners questions and addresses daily matters on "Radio Tel-Chai" radio station.  

These days Rabbi Avraham is a member of a group of Rabbis answering questions from the public on "Moreshet" website online, which has just recently celebrated 3 years online and over 8,500 q&a.

In the year of תשס"ה (2005) Rabbi Avraham recognized the urgent need of an external Yeshiva for the young observant school students in Holon.
Young boys which the separation from their families was too heavy burden for them and a lot them became lost.

The Yeshiva was founded almost immediately on the year תשס"ו (2006) and quickly gaind a good reputation. The Yeshiva's graduates, after 3 years of studying, Go to study in a "big" Yeshivas (for older students) which give honor to the Yeshiva in Holon.    

The Rabbis which were elected to teach the student in the Yeshiva are:
Rabbi Itshak M. Dayan, Rabbi Ofir Elbaz, Rabbi David Igali, Rabbi Ivtsan Zanani and Rabbi Ohad Yossef.
Yeshivas "Yabia-Omer" was blessed with the presidancy of Maran Ovadia Yossef Shlita and the leadership of Rabbi Avraham Yossef Shlita which give Torah lessons to the students everyday.
